Buckley King Expands with Corporate Tax Practice

September 5, 2017

The law firm of Buckley King is expanding its corporate practice with the addition of the lawyers of Bender, Alexander & Broome Co., LPA, who have merged their practices into the Firm. J.Timothy Bender, Joseph P. Alexander, and J.Scott Broome focus on civil tax controversy, criminal tax and “allied offenses” representation, white-collar criminal defense, estate and tax planning, corporate governance, and business and real estate transactions.

Bender is known to be among the most skillful, pragmatic and accomplished strategists in civil and criminal tax matters.  He represents individuals and corporations subject to financial investigation through trial and appeals. Having worked for the IRS, Bender is particularly adept at handling tax controversies with the IRS as well as with state and local taxing authorities, including income tax, estate tax, sales/use tax and excise tax audits.

Alexander advises clients on business and tax matters, including audits and tax appeals, entity selection and formation, and real estate transactions.  He provides counsel on finance and its role in business as well as estate taxation and administration. Prior to entering private practice, Alexander served as law clerk to Special Trial Judge Fred Tansill of the United States Tax Court.

Broome served as a District Counsel Lawyer for the IRS where he litigated complex tax issues before the United States Tax Court, as well as providing government officials advice on both civil and criminal matters. He guides and advocates on all aspects of individual and corporate taxation, including estate and tax planning, civil and criminal tax controversy, audit representation, litigation and appeals, internal investigations, and white-collar criminal defense. Broome has handled complex forfeiture cases ranging from U.S. currency to hundreds of pounds of wild American ginseng, to a 44-carat internally flawless yellow diamond.

“Bender, Alexander and Broome are another example of the high-caliber talent we focus on bringing into the Firm,” stated Brent M. Buckley, the Firm’s Managing Partner. “Their addition is an exceptional fit for our clients, our practices and the Firm.”
